Welcome back to Beyond the Bio, where we'll get to know more about the people behind the scenes at GW Athletics.
Â
In this edition, we learn about Lauren Shear, who is in her fifth year as a member of the Buff & Blue. Lauren is part of the Athletics Communications staff; where she started out as an intern in 2015-16 and later went on to join the team full-time when she graduated in 2017 with a B.A. in communication. As the manager of creative and digital content, she is responsible for overseeing @GWsports on social media in addition to acting as the primary communications contact for women's soccer, men's and women's squash, women's tennis, gymnastics, lacrosse, and men's rowing. Let's take a deeper dive into Lauren's passions, favorite places, and what she loves most about being a Colonial.
Â
When I'm not working, my favorite thing to do is?
Working out using the Peloton digital app or cooking! (Fun fact: I had a personalized chef jacket growing and took two courses at the Culinary Institute of America)
Â
If I was an animal, I would be?
A lion
If I could only eat one meal for every meal for the rest of my life, it would be?
Ezekiel cinnamon raisin english muffin with peanut butter, banana, and blueberries. This is what I have for breakfast every morning, so it wouldn't be too much of an adjustment.Â
Â
My favorite place I've ever been is?
Paris
If I could have coffee with anybody in the world, living or historical, he/she would be?
1. Julia Child - she discovered her passion for cooking later in life and didn't let people get in the way of her dream
2. Lorne Michaels - because he'd have great stories about the early days of SNL
3. Ed Belfour - who wouldn't want to meet their sports idol from when they were a kid?!
Â
The one job in GW Athletics I'd like to do for a day is?
 Strength & ConditioningÂ
Â
The person I'm most inspired by is?
 Leslie Knope
My favorite book, movie, TV show or podcast is?
Book: The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
Movie:Â Midnight in Paris, Zoolander
TV Show:Â Parks & Recreation, Peaky Blinders
My top #OnlyAtGWÂ moment was?
The first men's basketball game I worked in 2015-16. GW topped then-No.6 Virginia, 73-68, and at that moment I knew I wanted to be part of this team and the department as a whole.Â
Â
If I could be granted the gift of elite athleticism, I'd like to be able to?
Stick a successful and stunning pass on floor exercise
