Beyond the Bio: Matt Eliot, Equipment & Gameday Manager
3/24/2020 1:31:00 PM | General, My GW: Celebrating our Stories
Welcome to the first installment of Beyond the Bio, where we'll get to know more about the people behind the scenes at GW Athletics.
We start with Matt Eliot, who is in his third year as a member of the Buff & Blue. He is responsible for the equipment room and is the gameday manager at the Smith Center. Let's take a deeper dive into Matt's passions, favorite places, and what he loves the most about being a Colonial.
When I'm not working, my favorite thing to do is?
Discovering a great coffee shop I haven't been to before
If I was an animal, I would be?
A hawk. Swooping would be awesome.
If I could only eat one meal for every meal for the rest of my life, it would be?
I can't pick one! Three candidates: the roast chicken at Fernando's in Macau; the fresh white clam pizza from Zuppardi's in West Haven, CT; and the roast pork sandwich with broccoli rabe and sharp provolone from DiNic's at Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia.
My favorite place I've ever been is?
I can't pick one! It would be really tough to limit myself to a top 10 in Asia, let alone the whole world, but here goes:
10. Delaware beach towns
9. Krabi, Thailand
8. Madrid
7. Augusta National
6. Aphrodisias, Turkey
5. West Village, Manhattan
3 (tie). Istanbul and Hong Kong
2. Bangkok
1. Standing between the museums at the Trocadero in Paris with the view of the Eiffel Tower across the gardens and the Seine, it's the most beautiful spot on earth
If I could have coffee with anybody in the world, living or historical, he/she would be?
Henry Winkler
The one job in GW Athletics I'd like to do for a day is?
I'd like to be a Sport Supervisor. It would be great to work more closely with a coaching staff and group of student-athletes, supporting their drive to success.
The person I'm most inspired by is?
José Andres
My favorite book, movie, TV show or podcast is?
While I am a sucker for Law & Order marathons, I'd have to say Confederacy of Dunces. I usually read books only once, but this is the one book I re-read.
My top #OnlyAtGW moment was?
As much as I loved the tricorn hat world record this year, I have to go with Yuta Watanabe's senior night in 2018, with his parents in the stands
If I could be granted the gift of elite athleticism, I'd like to be able to?
I would love to have the throwing arm of a major league baseball player, and use it for the Milwaukee Brewers
