Colonials captured first A-10 title in program history
GW women's swimming and diving made history on Saturday night, claiming its first-ever Atlantic 10 title.
Over four days in Ohio, the Colonials leaned on their depth to complete their steady climb to the top of the team standings. They totaled 608 points to follow up last season's runner-up finish with a championship and improve their conference positioning for the fifth straight season.
GW earned nine medals on the week, including a gold for Andrea Moussier in the 1,650-yard freestyle and its 200-yard medley relay team of Andrea Ho, Stine Omdahl Peterson, Meghan Burton and Rebecca Smolcic. Seniors Gemma Atherley (200 free, 200 back) and Jackie Torrez (400 IM, 200 fly) both landed a pair of individual podium finishes.
Just as important, the squad was represented in every championship final throughout the week. In all, 16 swimmers and three divers earned points to help put the Colonials over the top.
