GW Athletics Celebrates Student-Athletes at 8th Annual Georgeys

On Thursday night in Lisner Auditorium, all of GW Athletics joined together for an evening of celebration, honors and memories at the eighth annual Georgey Awards.

Hosted by Mei-Lyn Bautista (women's basketball), Suzanne Dannheim (women's cross country and track), Isher Gill (men's water polo) and Noah Lubin (men's soccer), the show honored the accomplishments of GW's 27 teams and nearly 500 student-athletes in competition, the classroom and community.

Awards and MVPs were bestowed throughout the ceremony, including:

Rookies of the Year: Katarina Marinkovikj (Women's Tennis) and Zicheng Zeng (men's tennis)
Raise High our Community Student-Athlete (most community service): Alexa Miller-Smith (women's rowing)
Raise High our Community Team: Gymnastics
Staff Appreciation Award: Ellen Carter Woodbridge (educational support)
Colonials Cup (most supportive to their fellow Colonials): Softball
Best Athlete in a Supporting Role: Anna Savino (women's basketball) and Jason Re (men's soccer)
Fan of the Year: Bob Poogach
Raise High Donor of the Year: The Fassnacht Family
Dan Black Award (dedication, attitude and resilience): Jakob Coombes (men's cross country and track)
Academic Teams of the Year: Women's tennis (3.58 team GPA) and Men's cross country and track (3.35 GPA)
Moment of the Year: Logan Lowe's Hole-in-One at the A-10 Championship
Female Co-Athletes of the Year: Jenna Cone (softball) and Alex Zois (gymnastics)
Male Athlete of the Year: Moritz Fath (men's swimming and diving)
Red Auerbach Award for well-rounded excellence: Emily Zhang (women's swimming and diving) and Emils Pone (men's swimming and diving)
Team of the Year: Men's Water Polo
