Â
WASHINGTON – George Washington University and adidas entered a 5-year partnership in which the Portland, Ore., based company will be the official athletic footwear, apparel and accessory brand of the Colonials through the 2024 season. GW Director of Athletics and Recreation Tanya Vogel announced the deal.
Â
"adidas is a global leader in the world of sport and we are thrilled to enter into this agreement," said Vogel. "It became clear to us that adidas will be a true partner as we strive to achieve excellence in all that we do. Our GW students, coaches and staff come to the Nation's Capital to change the world and adidas is perfectly positioned to join our team in this pursuit."
Â
"George Washington has an unwavering commitment to excellence and a remarkable track record in both academics and athletics," said Jim Murphy, senior director of NCAA Sports Marketing at adidas North America. "We're proud to partner with GW and bring our best and most innovative gear to their athletes, coaches and fans."
Â
A leader in sport and innovation, adidas will outfit athletes across GW's 27 varsity men's and women's intercollegiate sports. adidas and GW will also co-create gear for coaches, staff and fans of the Buff and Blue.
Â
GW Athletics boasts a history dating back more than 100 years and includes championships won in 19 different sports. GW has sent more than 25 players to the NBA, including Yuta Watanabe, Japan's all-time leading scorer in the association. Additionally, multiple former student-athletes have gone on to compete in the Olympics, including men's basketball's Pops Mensah-Bonsu (England) and three-time bobsled medalist Elana Meyers Taylor, a GW softball alumna. The 3-Stripes are recognized the world over, and this partnership is fitting for GW Athletics.
