RICHMOND, Va. -Â GW volleyball ran into the hottest team in the A-10 on Sunday, falling in straight sets to VCU at the Siegel Center (18-25, 20-25, 19-25).
The Rams, one of two remaining unbeatens in league play, won their 12th straight match overall thanks to a .326 attack percentage as a team. GW was able to out-dig VCU, 29-26, but saw the Rams hold the edge in the other key categories, most notably blocks (7-3).
Sophomore Bella Bowman accounted for 11 of the Colonials' 29 digs to lead the back line. Senior Jaimeson Lee dished out 26 assists with seven digs and two blocks. Graduate student Caroline Sklaver hit .833 with five kills in six tries to pace the Buff & Blue offensively.
VCU started fast, scoring nine of the first 12 points in the opening stanza en route to leading wire-to-wire in a 25-18 set win. The second set featured nine ties early in the frame before VCU was able to gain a slight edge. The Rams finished things off by scoring six of the final eight points.
The Rams completed the sweep in the third, roaring out to a 9-1 advantage to assume control.
GW finishes off its six-game stretch away from home Friday, when the Buff and Blue make the short trek to George Mason for a 7 p.m. match. A win would cement the Colonials' spot in the A-10 tournament.Â
