Women's Swimming & Diving Opens Season at TYR Fall Classic

Atherley, Burton & Torrez led Colonials Friday
MIAMI, Fla. - Gemma Atherley, Meghan Burton and Jackie Torrez posted individual third-place finishes Friday to lead GW women's swimming & diving on the first day of the season-opening TYR Fall Classic.
The Colonials sit fifth out of eight teams heading into the final day of competition at Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Atherley took third in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:52.93 and also led the Colonials in fifth in the 100-yard backstroke (:57.65).
- Burton's third-place finish came in the 100-yard butterfly in 56.75 seconds. The junior from Virginia was part of both GW relays, as well. The 400-yard individual medley relay team of Burton, Andrea Ho, Stine Omdahl Petersen and Rebecca Smolcic touched sixth (3:52.03), and the 200-yard freestyle relay squad of Burton, Atherley, Smolcic and Grace Olivardia also placed sixth (1:36.92).
- Torrez kicked off her final season in Buff and Blue by taking third in the 400-yard individual medley (4:27.59).
- Making her collegiate debut, Omdahl Petersen, a first-year from Norway, led the Colonials in the 100-yard breaststroke with a seventh-place finish in 1:05.90.
- Rachel Dickinson (206.85) led the Colonials in 3-meter diving.
