The NCAA publicly announced the Graduation Success Rate of all Division I institutions today, with George Washington student-athletes achieving a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 94, six percent higher than the NCAA Division I average of 88, and marking the third consecutive year achieving a mark of 94.
GW's women's cross country and track, golf, gymnastics, men's rowing, women's soccer, men's and women's squash, women's swimming and diving, men's and women's tennis and women's water polo programs all achieved a perfect 100 score.
"The expectation from the top of our university is for Athletics to serve as a public display of discipline and excellence," identified Director of Athletics Tanya Vogel. "The 11 programs that achieved GSR perfection exemplify what that means in the classroom. Meanwhile, the overall department score of 94 stands as a testament to the intellect and effort of our student-athletes, and as a true credit to the coaches, faculty and staff that support their pursuits."Â
The NCAA developed the Division I Graduation Success Rate in response to college and university presidents who wanted graduation data that more accurately reflected the mobility among all college students today, as the Graduation Success Rate accounts for the academic outcomes of student-athletes who transfer from one institution to another. GSR data is based on a six-year cohort prescribed by the U.S. Department of Education with all scholarship student-athletes across the country in the 2009-10 to 2012-13 first year cohorts.
The graduation rate is based on a comparison of the number of students who entered college and the number of those who graduated within six years. The GSR provides information for student-athletes who received athletics aid for any period of time during their first year.
