Senior led GW to pair of wins over first-place foes last week

Mei-Lyn Bautista had a career week while leading GW to a pair of victories at home against VCU and on the road at Duquesne. The senior point guard played all but three minutes in the two games, averaging 20.5 ppg, 4.0 apg and 3.0 spg. Bautista was a remarkable 12-of-22 (54.5%) from deep, hitting six 3s in each game to set and then match her career-high.
The Queens, N.Y. native started off her week with a virtuoso performance at home against VCU, canning 6-of-11 3-pointers en route to a season-high 21 points against the nation's #2 3-point field goal defense. Bautista accounted for all nine of GW's points in the first quarter and provided the dagger triple with 1:02 left. She added five assists and three steals, ultimately having a hand in 34 of GW's 57 points on the night.
Bautista followed that up with another 6-of-11 day from beyond the arc to net 20 points in GW's win at Duquesne Sunday. She hit four 3s in the first half and then went on a personal 8-0 run in the third quarter that featured a pair of trifectas. Playing 39 minutes, Bautista was all over the floor again with three steals, three assists and three rebounds.
The senior is hitting her stride in conference play, having scored in double figures in four straight games while playing all but six minutes of action. She has accrued multiple steals in six straight contests and has dished out at least three assists in six straight games as well. Bautista is second in the A-10 with 2.1 steals per game and ranks third in the league with 4.0 assists per game.
