Junior led men's water polo to three wins last week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. - George Washington's Andrew Mavis has been named Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Player of the Week after leading the 20th-ranked Colonials to three conference wins last weekend.
Mavis paced the Buff and Blue in scoring in all three contests, totaling 18 goals, seven ejections drawn and four steals. The junior from New Jersey posted seven goals in Friday's 21-18 win at Johns Hopkins, plus a steal and two ejections drawn.Â
He converted all four of his shots and added a steal and two ejections drawn in a 23-9 win over La Salle in GW's home opener Saturday morning before registering seven more goals on 10 shots with two steals and three ejections drawn in a 20-9 win over No. 15 Bucknell.
It's the second MAWPC weekly award for Mavis, who was recognized as Co-Player of the Week on Oct. 25, 2017. He earned first-team All-MAWPC honors last season before being named MVP of the conference championship as GW claimed its first title. This season, he leads the Colonials in goals (52) and ejections drawn (45) through 17 games.
Henry Maas, a first-year from California, earned a spot on the Rookie of the Week Honor Roll after tallying four assists, five steals and two field blocks over the three victories.
The Colonials (13-4) continue MAWPC play this weekend with a Sunday trip to Lewisburg, Pa., for a rematch with Bucknell.
