RICHMOND, Va.-- The George Washington women's soccer squad earned their fourth straight shutout victory on Thursday evening when they squashed the Richmond Spiders, 2-0, at Robins Stadium. The Colonials improve to 9-3-1 on the season and 4-1 in A-10 play.
After 32 minutes of scoreless action in the first half, sophomore defender Deena DeSilva gave the Buff and Blue a 1-0 lead off a penalty kick with her first goal of the 2017 season. The GW front line continued to apply the offensive pressure and found the back of the net once again just 11 minutes into the second half. Off a corner kick taken by Allie Nornes, Dani Frese tipped the ball to Sofia Pavon, who headed the ball past the reach of the Spiders' goalkeeper.
Redshirt senior goalkeeper Miranda Horn made six saves between the pipes to turn in her fourth consecutive clean sheet and sixth shutout this season.
