
GW Women's Soccer Drops Non-Conference Finale

TOWSON, Md. - The George Washington women's soccer team wrapped non-conference play on Sunday, falling to Towson on the road, 2-0, at the Tiger Soccer Complex.
The Colonials (6-3-0) will take an 11-day hiatus from competition before opening Atlantic 10 play on Sept. 29 at Saint Joseph's.
The Colonials took their first shot of the match when senior Kate Elson made an attempt in the 29th minute, but her shot went wide left. Shortly after, senior MacKenzie Cowley got off a shot of her own but missed wide right in the 31st minute.
Towson (3-6-1) took a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute to pull ahead.
The Colonials kept persisting, as redshirt junior Ivana Szwejkowski responded with a header, but her attempt went wide left as GW was unable to score in the first half.
Towson picked up where it left off in the second half, increasing its lead to 2-0 with a goal in the 50th minute.
GW created more opportunities in the second half, earning four corner kicks and taking four shots in the stanza, but could not tally a shot on goal.
Redshirt junior goalkeeper Miranda Horn posted five saves on the day.
