WASHINGTON - The George Washington women's soccer team returns to action on Thursday evening at LSU after a strong season-opening weekend of play. The Colonials and Tigers face off at LSU Soccer Stadium at 8 p.m. ET.
The Colonials (2-0-0) are off to a strong start in 2016 after shutting out St. Francis (Pa.) on the road and triumphing over Cleveland State, 2-1, in the home opener at the GW Soccer Field in their season-opening weekend of competition.
Senior MacKenzie Cowley has tallied a goal in each of GW's contests this season, building off of a career year in 2015 that saw the senior forward post a team-best 10 scores.
Freshman Deena DeSilva netted her first career goal against Cleveland State, notching the eventual gamewinner en route to Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors.
GW was picked to finish second in the A-10 preseason poll, while redshirt junior goalkeeper Miranda Horn and sophomore Sofia Pavon were named to the Preseason All-Conference Team.
LSU (1-1-0) marks the first of three NCAA Tournament participants from 2015 that the Colonials will face this season. The Tigers dropped their season opener to No. 17 Virginia Tech, 1-0, at the Charleston Classic at Patriots Point before downing the College of Charleston, 1-0, to wrap the first weekend of play.
Junior Jordane Carvery tallied her first career goal to lift LSU to its first win of 2016. Classmate Jorian Baucom returns for the Tigers after leading the squad with 15 goals en route to First Team All-SEC and NSCAA First-Team All-South Region honors. Senior Summer Clarke completes a dangerous scoring tandem after grabbing Second Team All-SEC and NSCAA Second Team All-South Region recognition with seven goals and five assists a year ago.
LSU returns seven starters and 12 letterwinners from 2015.
The Colonials and Tigers will meet for the first time in program history on Thursday evening.
