WASHINGTON - The George Washington women's soccer squad continues Atlantic 10 play with a pair of road matches this week. The Colonials will take a short trip to La Salle on Thursday before visiting Massachusetts on Sunday.
The Colonials (7-4-0, 1-1-0 A-10) come off a dominant, 3-0, victory over St. Bonaventure on Sunday at home. Seniors Lina Proska and Brooke Bean and junior Brittany Cooper each tallied goals to grab the team's first A-10 victory of the season.
GW ranks second in the league with a 0.82 goals-against average and is tied for a conference best with five clean sheets on the season. Redshirt junior keeper Miranda Horn leads the A-10 with an .865 save percentage and a 0.67 GAA, ranking 27th and 31st in the nation, respectively.
Senior MacKenzie Cowley is tied for second in the A-10 with seven goals this year. Her four gamewinners are tied for tops in the league and rank eighth nationally. As a squad, the Colonials average 1.36 goals per contest.
La Salle (3-6-1, 1-0-1 A-10) defeated Massachusetts in its A-10 opener last Thursday before playing Davidson to a 0-0 (2OT) draw on Sunday. The Explorers have allowed 19 goals in 2016 and have been out-shot 150-105.
A year ago, GW downed La Salle, 2-1, in overtime. The Colonials lead the all-time series with La Salle, 14-9-0.
Massachusetts (2-6-1, 0-2-0 A-10) has scored four goals in eight games on the year - the fewest in the conference. The Minutewomen fell to La Salle in overtime last Thursday and to Richmond on Sunday to open A-10 play. UMass is allowing an average of 13.2 shots per match.
GW took a 1-0 victory over UMass in 2015.
