WASHINGTON - The George Washington women's soccer team will play its second consecutive home game on Friday as Drexel visits the GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus for a 3 p.m. contest. Fans are encouraged to wear Buff and Blue to the match in celebration of College Colors Day.
Ranked seventh in the Mid-Atlantic region, the Colonials (2-1-0) return to the pitch after downing East Carolina, 3-0, on Sunday in their home opener. Junior MacKenzie Cowley tallied a pair of goals on the day, and senior Emily Brown netted her second career score on a penalty kick. Cowley's three goals on the season are tied for second in the Atlantic 10. Redshirt-sophomore Miranda Horn and senior Ellen Conway have split time in goal for the Colonials, tallying nine and three saves, respectively.
Drexel (3-1-0) enters the weekend on a two-game win streak, outscoring opponents 5-2 en route to victories over Fairfield and Stony Brook a week ago. Shaelyn McCarty (2g), Madison Dunn (2g) and Vanessa Kara (1g, 2a) each have a team-leading four points on the season. McCarty was named Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Co-Rookie of the Week for her two goals against Fairfield. The Dragons' Eve Badana has shouldered most of the minutes between the posts so far this season and has allowed two goals while making 15 saves.
Drexel and GW have met twice before, splitting their two previous matches. Most recently, the Dragons posted a 2-0 victory over the Colonials in 2014.
