NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The George Washington men's track team competed in its final tune-up ahead of next weekend's Atlantic 10 Championships at Sunday's Vince Brown Invitational at the Freeman Center on the campus of Christopher Newport University.
Freshman Carter Day led 10 Colonial student-athletes in the mile, registering a time of 4:28.30 to claim 12th place out of 80 competitors. Sophomore Jordan Pantalone also recorded a top-20 finish, taking 18th in 4:30.78.
Freshman Charles Arnold followed in 28th place in 4:36.10 ahead of senior John-Louis Pane (29th, 4:38.67), sophomore Seamus Roddy (34th, 4:40.13), sophomore Tyler Gillies (38th, 4:41.69), junior Ryan Tucker (45th, 4:44.74), freshman Luke Dublirer (52nd, 4:47.51), freshman Noah Duell (54th, 4:49.02) and junior Jack McCabe (59th, 4:54.85).
Freshman Joseph Verghese became GW's first-ever indoor hurdles performer when he finished in 11th place in the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries with a time of 9.90.
GW also competed in the 800-meter run on Sunday with freshman Chris Shaffer taking 16th place out of 69 competitors in 2:02.97. Senior Rob Craven followed in 35th place in 2:06.56.
For the first time in program history the Colonials will compete at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championships at Mackal Field House in Kingston, Rhode Island, next Saturday and Sunday.
