GW (4-10-1, 0-6 A-10) opened the first half with a 3-1 advantage in shots, but at 27:40 Rhode Island's Ashley Boyle and Jennifer Barrientos used two quick touches to put the ball in the box and Maggie MacDonald headed it into the net for the lone tally of the contest.
The Rams (9-7-1, 2-4 A-10) tallied three more shots in the stanza and added seven in the second, but just three of URI's 12 attempts were on target. The Colonials' freshman goalkeeper Nicole Fasano made two stops on the night in the 80th and 82nd minutes.
GW registered four shots throughout the match, with one coming in the second half. Freshman Kristi Abbate took the Colonials' first shot at 9:50 but the ball hooked wide of the net. Juniors Alex Neal and Jane Wallis followed with back-to-back shots but neither found the back of the net. Sophomore Nicole Fasano registered a header in the 63rd minute for the Buff and Blue.
The loss marks the sixth of the season for GW that was decided by one goal. The Colonials look for their first conference win of the season when they travel to
