WASHINGTON - The George Washington women's soccer team seeks its second straight win Friday when it hosts Iowa in a non-conference clash at Mount Vernon Field at 4 p.m. The Colonials (1-2) look to hand the Hawkeyes (3-0) their first loss of the season in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
GW is coming off its first win of the season with a thrilling come-from-behind 2-1 double-overtime victory at San Francisco last weekend.
Trailing 1-0 with just over 20 minutes remaining in the second half, sophomore Claire Haft connected with senior Taryn Dietrich to knot the score. In the second minute of double-overtime, sophomore Alex Neal found her way around the Dons' keeper to net the game-winning goal for GW.
The Colonials have been anchored in the back by senior goalkeeper Lindsey Rowe, who has totaled 33 saves in just three games for an Atlantic 10-leading 11.00 saves per game.
Iowa is coming off a commanding 6-1 decision over Western Illinois Friday. Leah DeMoss led all scorers with a pair of goals, while Cloe Lacasse added a goal and an assist for the Hawkeyes.
Friday's match marks the first time the Colonials will face a Big Ten opponent in 15 years, as well as the first time a team from the league will visit Mount Vernon Field.
