Omar Sobhy won the Malloy Cup at the College Squash Association (CSA) Individual Nationals at Dartmouth College on March 6 becoming the first ever national champion in the history of the George Washington squash program.
Sobhy, who entered the tournament as the 88th-ranked player in the CSA, was the No. 15 seed in the B-division draw of 56 players and rattled off five consecutive victories to take home the Malloy Cup Championship. All of Sobhy's opponents were players on a top-five team in collegiate squash.
Sobhy's accomplishment marks the first time that a GW player has advanced past the second round of Nationals. His outstanding performance over the weekend will earn him a final ranking of No. 33 in the United States.
