GW Women's Soccer Drops Season Finale to Rhode Island

The Colonials held a 10-9 advantage in shots over the Rams (7-10-1, 2-6-0 A-10) and a 3-2 edge in corner kicks, but GW struggled to connect on goal. Freshman Meg Murphy led all players with four shots, while senior Sierra Smidinger added two.
Neither squad found the back of the goal in the first half, as the teams' headed into halftime scoreless.
However, just 43 seconds into the second half, miscommunication inside GW's 18-yard box caused senior goalkeeper Lindsey Rowe to come off her line while
Prior to Sunday's contest the Colonials honored their three seniors - Taryn Dietrich, Lindsey Rowe and Sierra Smidinger.
With four shutouts during the 2011 season, Rowe finishes her career ranked third all-time on GW's career shutouts list with 16 during her four seasons. She is also third on the career saves list with 357 total saves. Smidinger is tied for 11th on GW's all-time career assists list with 10 helpers and is tied for 31st on the career scoring list with six goals and 10 assists for 22 points.
