WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington women's soccer team lost to rival Georgetown, 3-0 on Friday afternoon to open the 2010 season. The Hoyas improve to 2-0-0 on the season, while the Colonials sit at 0-1-0.
To open the match, the Colonials had solid possessions on the Hoyas defense but were not able to put one past GU's goalkeeper Jackie Desjardin.
"I believe we have just seen a potential Top 25 team today," said coach Tanya Vogel. "To open the season facing Georgetown, I am walking away pleased with areas of our play and a full 90 minutes of effort."
The Hoyas put one on the board in the 18th minute, when Kelly D'Ambrisi connected with Ingrid Wells cross with her left foot.
Senior captain Ashley Starks posted GW's first shot of the first half, missing high from the top of the box. Starks tallied the Colonials' second shot in the second half, hitting the top post.
GU's duo of Wells and D'Ambrisi connected again in the 69th minute, for D'Ambrisi's second goal of the season, to make it 2-0.
Georgetown's Camille Trujillo added the third goal at 74:53 off a break away down the field, juking a Colonial defender to take on GW goalkeeper Lindsey Rowe. Senior captain Bridget Mahon saw 12 minutes of playing time in the second half, replacing Rowe.
The Colonials will be on the road Sunday, Aug. 29, when they take on Robert Morris in Moon Township, PA at 1:00 p.m.
