WASHINGTON, DC -- The George Washington University Women's Soccer head coach Tanya Vogel and assistant coach Lane Davis are excited to announce their five-member 2010 recruiting class, including many players from some of the top clubs in the country.
Joining the Colonials for the 2010 season are defenders Melanie Keer (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks-South) and Stephanie Marcozzi (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial), midfielders Alexandria Neal (Lake Villa, IL/Lakes Community) and Jane Wallis (Briarcliff Manor, NY/ Briarcliff Manor) and goalkeeper Nicole Ulrick (Holland, PA/ Council Rock South).
"We are ecstatic to have reached this day and to announce our 2010s," said Vogel. "Our incoming class is composed of athletes who have won National and Regional Championships, members of both Region I and Region II ODP teams and have competed internationally. We were able to continue the excellence in recruiting that has helped our program position itself back in the hunt for the Atlantic 10 Championships."
"Our 2010 class will help to bolster positions that have been vacated due to graduation." Women's soccer finished the 2009 season 7-8-4, 4-5-2 in Atlantic 10 play, just missing post-season play by one point.
Melanie Keer
Position: Defender
Hometown: Doyletown, PA
High School: Central Bucks High School South
Club Team: FC Bucks
Coach Vogel's Scouting Report: "I saw Melanie play for the first time in November 2008. Immediately, I called my assistant and told him that we needed this kid on our team! She is fast, tenacious and will add tremendous capabilities to our back line- both offensively and defensively."
Keer on George Washington: ""I chose GW because I fell in love with the school and the people. I want to impact a DI program and compete against great competition. The girls and Tanya were unlike the players and coaches at any other school. It's great that I get to continue playing with my goalie Nicole and I love all the incoming recruits! I couldn't have found a better fit for me!"
Keer's Resume: Starting center back for the Bucks, Keer has led her team to championships at Jefferson Cup, PDA, MSSL and MAPS in 2009. She helped lead CB South to their first State Tournament in 2009 with a record of 22-2, going undefeated in league play with 16 shutouts and being rated as high as #3 in the ESPN Fab 50 rankings. This performance earned Keer All-State, an honor that only 2 juniors earned in 2009. She will serve as captain during her senior HS season. Additionally, Keer runs a sub-60sec 400 and competes for her high school in the 4x400 relay. Keer is a member of the National Honor Society.
Stephanie Marcozzi
Position: Defender
Hometown: Haddonfield, NJ
High School: Haddonfield Memorial High School
Club Team: Mount Laurel United Comets
Coach Vogel's Scouting Report: "Steph is a strong defender who will match the intensity and physicality of the Atlantic 10 immediately. She has a great long throw-in, is a hard worker and will compete daily to make our program better." Marcozzi on George Washington: "I chose GW because I was searching for a school with a strong academic reputation where I could also be a part of a high level soccer program. GW is the perfect fit for me. I love the close-knit environment fostered by the coaches and the team, as well as the excitement of Washington D.C. I'm truly looking forward to the next 4 years."
Marcozzi's Resume: Marcozzi has played for the Comets for the past 5 years, including their run to the NJ State Cup Championships in 2007. She's a 4-year Varsity player at Haddonfield, carrying her team to the NJ State Finals 3 out of 4 years. She led her team to capture the NJ State Championship in both her sophomore and senior seasons, earning All-State honors as a senior. She is a National Honor Society member and will study in the Business School next fall.
Alexandria Neal
Position: Midfield
Hometown: Lake Villa, IL
High School: Lakes Community High School
Club Team: Eclipse Select
Coach Vogel's Scouting Report: "Alexandria comes to us from the Eclipse Select Soccer Club out of Illinois where she was a huge part of their National Championships team. Neal scored the game winning goal in the game that led them to the finals. She is a technical flank left-sided player who has proven her abilities to play at a high level. We are looking for her to add composure in the back and midfield thirds, while she works to get forward and provide services from the flank.
Neal on George Washington: "I chose GW because it was everything that I was looking for in a school: great academics, soccer program, and location. After my first visit, the team, coaches, and campus won me over."
Neal's Resume: Train by Rory Dames, Neal has had elite level training for the past few seasons with the Eclipse. While playing for the Eclipse, she has won multiple championships including Disney, Midwest Regional League and the 2009 National Championship. Neal has been a member of the Region II Pool and IL ODP State teams. As a high school athlete, she has been named All- Conference, All-Area, All-Sectional and was voted MVP as a sophomore. She is a High-Honor Roll student for all four years of high school and has been named All-Academic and an Illinois State Scholar.
Nicole Ulrick
Position: Goalkeeper
Hometown: Holland, PA
High School: Council Rock High School South
Club Team: FC Bucks Fusion
Coach Vogel's Scouting Report: "Nicole is a very solid goalkeeper who has proven her resiliency time and time again. She is currently coming back from an ACL injury that sidelined her during the spring and summer of her junior year. She has recovered fully and will be competing with Seniors Bridget Mahon and Molly Jensen as well as Junior Lindsey Rowe in the goalkeeper position."
Ulrick on George Washington: "I chose GW because of the opportunities available on and off the field. I knew when I walked on campus that this was the school for me, and after meeting the team and coaches, my decision was easy to make."
Ulrick's Resume: Starting goalkeeper for the Bucks and her Council Rock-South high school team, Ulrick was named to the All-League team despite being injured for the majority of her junior season. She helped lead her HS to the PIAA District I Championships in 2007, was named Rookie of the year. She plays with fellow 2010 Melanie Keer and has helped the Bucks win multiple championships over the past 3 seasons. Ulrick currently is ranked #1 in her senior class of 550 students and is a member of the National Honor Society (and Math, Spanish and Science Honor Societies).
Jane Wallis

Hometown: Briarcliff Manor, NY
High School: Briarcliff Manor High School
Club Team: Albertson Fury
Coach Vogel's Scouting Report: "Jane is a fantastic player suited for the flanks- technical, quick, feisty. She's a true competitor who has been trained by some of the best coaches in the country. We are looking for Jane to contribute in the back and midfield immediately."
Wallis on George Washington: "I chose GW because of the whole package. Choosing GW meant playing soccer at a high level, attending a great academic school, living in the most alive city in the US and being a part of an enthusiastic team."
Wallis' Resume: Wallis comes to us from the Albertson Fury. She has helped her team win State Championships as well as at some of the most prestigious showcases in the country (Disney, WAGS, NEWSS and CASL). A Region I Pool player in 2008 and 2009, Wallis will travel to Russia this spring with the Region I team gaining international experience playing with and against some of the best players in her age group. She served as ENY-S ODP captain from 2005 through 2009. Wallis has also challenged herself by playing with the Long Island Fury Women's Team, the WPSL team that won the National Championships in 2009. A decorated high school captain, Jane was awarded All-State honors as a senior. She's a National Honor Society member and has been named a Scholar Athlete all four years at Briarcliff Manor HS.
