Already a force in the circle and at the plate, freshman pitcher Kara Clauss has made GW opponents regret facing her. While at the USF Under Armour Showcase, Clauss earned both GW wins, a 1-0 victory over Long Island and a 2-1 victory over host USF, both in extra innings. Against USF, Clauss drove in the game-winning run from second base with a single through the right side.
Clauss hit her first collegiate home run against Army on Mar. 8. She also struck out a career-high eight batters in the same game. Clauss' stats for the week: seven games,batting: four hits, one run, two doubles and a walk; pitching: four starts, one relief appearance and struck out 15 in 23.2 innings.
Clauss has thrown 53.2 innings, allowed 60 hits, 40 runs (30 earned), walked 24 and struck out 41 in nine starts and one relief appearance. She is hitting .217, with a slugging percentage of .435.
