
GW Women's Soccer Beats Rival American 1-0

Washington, DC - The George Washington women's soccer team has defeated cross-town rival American University 1-0 Tuesday afternoon at AU's Reeves Athletic Complex. Senior Kerry Philbin scored the game-winning goal for the Colonials in the 86th minute.
Both goalies were tested in a hard-fought match in which their were 34 combined shots. GW freshman goalie Lindsey Rowe posted her second shutout and the team's third shutout of the season turning away all nine shots she faced.
The Colonials were awarded a corner kick at the 86:26 mark and Philbin headed home a perfect ball from senior Lauren Kelly. The goal and assist were the first of the season for both Philbin and Kelly.
After starting the season 1-4 the Colonials have rattled off three straight wins to even their season record at 4-4. American fell to 3-6-1 on the season.
George Washington will open their Atlantic 10 season Sept. 26, at 4 p.m. with a home match against Fordham at Mount Vernon Field (2100 Foxhall Rd. NW). They will play their first A-10 road game of the season at La Salle on Sept. 28, at 1 p.m.
