WASHINGTON, DC - The home opener for George Washington women's soccer (0-2) against Old Dominion (2-0) ended as a heartbreaking 2-1 loss for the Colonials. With seemingly no time left on the clock in the first overtime session Elizabeth Brewster scored a goal for ODU to give GW their second loss of the season and first of the season at Mount Vernon Field.
Just before halftime Jillian Morgan took a free kick deep in GW territory which found the foot of Misa Eiritz who got GW on the board first with a great run and shot. The goal and assist were the first of Eiritz and Morgan's career.
The mad scramble at the end of the game started with an ODU corner kick with seconds remaining. Goalkeeper Lindsey Rowe made a great play, punching the ball out of the box, only to find it fall to Brewster's feet for the game-winning goal.
ODU's game tying goal was scored by Victoria Johnson at 73:29. Next up for George Washington is a match against Bryant University. The game will take place Sunday, August 31 at 1 pm, at Mount Vernon Field (2100 Foxhall Rd, NW).
