In her second collegiate meet, Tawney won two individual events, was part of the victorious medley relay team and placed second in the 50- yard freestyle to help the Colonials defeat Georgetown, 150-143 and rout Providence, 197-86, in a three-way meet Saturday at Georgetown.
Tawney won the 100-yard backstroke in :59.71 and the 200-yard backstroke in 2:11.30. She also swam the backstroke leg of the medley relay that touched first in 4:02.67. In the 50-yard freestyle, the 6-foot-2 freshman from Baltimore took second place in a time of 25.83, just 29 hundredths of a second behind teammate Jessica Miga. Her time of :59.71 in the 100 backstroke was more than three seconds ahead of the runner-up and her time of 2:11.30 in the 200-yard backstroke won that event by nearly three seconds. Tawney's efforts helped GW overcome a 32-point deficit to win the meet.
