WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington women's soccer team will open the 2007 season at Vermont, as they announced their schedule late Wednesday afternoon. Following two early exhibition games, the Colonials will travel to Burlington, VT, to face-off against UVM and New Hampshire in a four-team tournament.
The match against the Catamounts will pit Colonials head coach Tanya Vogel against her former teammate and roommate at GW, Kerry Dziczkaniec. Last year, in the first ever meeting between the two schools, GW won 2-1, in overtime.
The Colonials will also participate in a four-team tournament at George Mason, which includes a key match-up against Georgetown.
From there, GW will host Buffalo, marking the first ever meeting between the schools, and play at American before entering into Atlantic 10 competition. The Colonials will have their work cut out for them, as their conference schedule has them playing four of the top five teams from last season, including a weekend road-trip against both the regular season champion, Charlotte (10/12), and the A-10 Tournament winner, Saint Louis (10/20).
Against the 11 opponents on the 2007 schedule that GW saw last season, the Colonials finished 5-6.
In 2006, GW started the season with their best non-conference mark in school history at 7-3-0, and finished with a 9-10-0 overall record. Their nine wins were the most since the 2003 campaign.
