WASHINGTON, DC -Dara Rosen, a freshman forward on the George Washington women's soccer team, has been named to the Atlantic 10 Conference's All-Rookie Team. The A-10 honors, voted on by the conference's head coaches, were announced on Wednesday.
Rosen (Rockville, MD/Richard Montgomery), who appeared in 19 matches and made 11 starts, was a key playmaker on the GW squad that started the season 5-0 at Mount Vernon Field, the team's longest home winning streak since a seven game stretch between 2001-02. She made her collegiate debut, and her first career start, in the season's opening match a UMBC, a 1-0 win. A month later, Rosen tallied two goals, including the first of her young career, in a 3-1 win over Rider. In a key conference match against St. Bonaventure, Rosen scored the game-winning goal in the 61st minute, securing the GW victory.
She ended the season tied for second on the team with nine points and four goals, two of which were game-winners. Rosen's four goals were the most by a freshman at GW since Sarah Sample equaled the amount in 2003.
Atlantic 10 Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year honors went to Ali Wean of St. Joeseph's and Saint Louis's Courtney Hulcer, respectively. Hulcer also was named the Student-Athlete of the Year. Julie Bradenberg, also of Saint Louis, was named the league's Rookie of the Year. Fordham's Ness Selmani, who guided his team to the most wins in their program's history and 12-6-0 overall record, was named Coach of the Year.
After starting the season with their best non-conference mark in school history at 7-3-0, the Colonials finished with a 9-10-0 overall record. Their nine wins were the most since the 2003 campaign.
