GW Swimming and Diving Falls at Home to UMBC

WASHINGTON, DC - Both the George Washington University men's and women's swimming and diving teams dropped a home dual meet, Sunday, to the University of Maryland - Baltimore County at Smith Center Pool. The men fell 127-101 and the women fell 138-97.
GW diver Katura Horton-Perinchief (Sandys, Bermuda / Richview Collegiate Institute (Toronto, ONT) led the Colonials with first place finishes in both the three-meter (293.63) and one-meter (258.33) dives.
Freshman Brian Waldman (North Andover, MA/North Andover) also recorded a top finish in diving as he took the three-meter with 198.38 points.
Other individual first place wins for GW belonged to senior David Penneys (Newark, DE/Archemere Academy), who took the 500-yard freestyle (4:46.45), and sophomore Sean Flaherty (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough), who took the 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.33). Flaherty also placed second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:57.39, the top GW this time year.
Freshman Megan Loock (Southbury, CT/Hopkins School) also reset a top GW season time with a 5:10.90 mark in the 500-yard freestyle.
The Colonials' women's team won both the 400-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relays.
Senior Kirsten Rasmuson (San Diego, CA/Mt. Carmel), junior Maggie Moss (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) and sophomores Shannon Ma (Kennisaw, GA/The Walker School) and Monica Pampell (Albuquerque, NM/Albuquerque) combined on the 400-yard medley time.
Juniors Caitlin Hyde (Fairless Hills/PA/Bensalem) and Christina Boland (Purcelville, VA/Loudon Valley), along with Loock and Pampell, combined on the 400-yard freestyle time.
The GW men's squad also notched a first place finish in the 400-yard freestyle. Senior Bryan Ferretti (Newton, PA/Council Rock), sophomores Dan Mahoney (Oakland, CA/Bishop O'Dowd) and Jeffrey Cohn (New Orleans, LA/Isadore Newman) and freshman Jeff Glazer (Dix Hills, NY/Commack) combined on the time.
The GW men's and women's diving teams also competed Friday and Saturday at the Black Knight Diving Invitational hosted by Army. Horton-Perinchief also swept the one-meter and three-meter dives, posting 484.70 and 492.25 points respectively.
Both the Colonials' men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to action Saturday when they face Howard University at Smith Center Pool beginning at 12:00 pm.
