GW Battles Army in Swimming and Diving

WEST POINT, NY - The George Washington University men's and women's swimming and diving teams were both defeated Saturday afternoon at West Point. The women were nipped by Army 120-119 and the men were knocked-off 136-95.
The Colonials were led by junior Maggie Moss (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) who recorded three first-place finishes in the meet. Moss took victories in both the 100-yard (54.34 seconds) and 200-yard (1:55.84 seconds) freestyle and the 200-yard individual medley (2:10.91).
Other first-place finishes by the GW women included freshman Megan Loock (Southbury, CT/Hopkins School) who took the 1650-yard freestyle (17:52.43) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:13.02).
Senior Kirsten Rasmuson (San Diego, CA/Mt. Carmel) and sophomore Monica Pampell (Albuquerque, NM/Albuquerque) also notched victories in the meet. Rasmuson won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:27.17) while Pampell grabbed the 200-yard backstroke (2:10.57).
On the men's side, sophomore Sean Flaherty (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough) earned a first-place win in the 500-yard freestyle (4:43.13) and tied teammate senior Bryan Ferretti (Newton, PA/Council Rock) for first in the 1650-yard freestyle (16:15.29).
Sophomore Jon Sabin (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield) also placed first in two events, taking the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.08) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:55.42).
Placing first in the men's 200-yard breaststroke for the Colonials was freshman Mark DeSimone (Stamford, CT/Westhill) who recorded a time of 2:22.64 in the event.
Junior Alicia Moulton's (North Andover, MA/North Andover) point total of 193.50 in the women's one-meter dive placed her first in the event. GW Diver Katura Horton-Perinchief (Sandys, Bermuda / Richview Collegiate Institute (Toronto, ONT) did not compete in the meet.
Both GW men's and women's squads won a relay in the meet. The men took the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:29.24) and the women won the 200-yard medley relay (1:51.59).
GW competes in its final regular season meet Saturday when they travel to Fairfax, VA to face George Mason University. The meet begins at 2:00 p.m.
The Atlantic 10 Championships are scheduled for Feb. 17-19 in Buffalo, NY.
