PHILADELPHIA, PA - Senior women's soccer student-athlete Lindsay Bruno (Kensington, CT/The Loomis Chaffee School) was named to the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference Team by the league's coaches on July 30. Freshmen Kiki Colker (Beverly Hills, CA/Beverly Hills), Amie Kern (Saylorsburg, PA/Stroudsburg), and Katie White (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) also garnered preseason honors by being selected to the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Rookie Team.
Bruno, a back, anchored a Colonials defense that recorded seven shutouts in 2003 and only allowed 0.87 goals per game, helping the team to an 11-6-2 record. She appeared in 18-of-19 games last season and earned second-team all-conference honors. For her career she has started 38 of the 49 matches she has appeared in.
Colker, a forward, earned four letters at Beverly Hills High School and finished second on the team in goals and assists as freshman and led the squad in both categories as a sophomore. She was also a member of the 2001 U.S. National Team that won the Gold Medal at the Maccabi Games.
Colker has a tremendous amount of club soccer experience as well. She joined the Slammers U-17 Premier Team in 2002 and immediately helped them win the 2002 League Cup Championship, the 2002 Newport Classic Cup crown, and the 2002 CRSC Memorial Challenge Cup title. The following year she was a member of the squad that won the 2003 Surf Cup U-19 Super Group Championship, the 2003 Newport Classic Cup title, and advanced to the 2003 National State Cup final.
Kern will add depth to the Colonials goalkeeping unit in 2004. She compiled a high school career record of 71-19-2 with 46 shutouts. Kern also recorded a 0.68 goals-against average in 22 games as senior. She was a four-time All-Mountain Valley Conference honoree and earned area Player of the Year and all-state accolades as a senior. Kern was also selected as Stroudsburg's Female Athlete of the Year following last season.
Like Colker, White is expected to play up front for the Colonials. She was a member of two county, region, and state championship squads at Severna Park High School in Maryland. White led the team in scoring as a sophomore (nine goals, five assists) and junior (13 goals, six assists). She was a 2002-03 first-team all-county selection and also earned All-Met and all-state honors that same year. In addition, White also competed on the Maryland State Olympic Development Team in 1999-2000.
George Washington had the second-most preseason honorees this year with four. Richmond had the most with a total of five Spiders named to the preseason all-conference or all-rookie squads.
The Colonials kick off their season at Virginia Commonwealth on August 27 at 6:00 p.m.
