WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington University women's soccer players Sarah Sample (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) and Lindsay Bruno (Kensington, CT/The Loomis Chaffee School) have been named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Team Thursday.
Sample, a sophomore forward, earned first-team All-Conference honors while Bruno, a senior defender, was chosen to the second team.
Named to the A-10 All-Rookie team last season, Sample was the Colonials' top offensive performer this year leading GW in goals (6) and points (14). She was the team's biggest scoring weapon, attempting 74 shots this season (second in the A-10) and averaging 3.89 shots per game (third in the A-10).
Bruno, an All-Conference preseason pick, anchored the Colonials' defense that allowed just 1.19 goals a game and posted five shutouts. Bruno started all 19 games for GW. She also was selected All-Conference second-team last season.
Atlantic 10 Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year honors went to Dayton's Reba Sedlacek and Jen Simonetti, respectively. Rhode Island's Thorunn Helga Jonsdottir was named the league's Rookie of the Year and Caitlin Holmes of Duquesne was chosen the A-10's Student-Athlete of the Year.
Dayton's Mike Tucker, who guided his team to a perfect 11-0-0 conference record, was named A-10 Coach of the Year.
