Greenville, NC - The Colonials swimming and diving teams each suffered two loses against Duke and East Carolina at a double dual-meet at East Carolina. The men lost to Duke 174-63 followed by a loss to East Carolina by a score of 133-77. The women lost to Duke 162-78 and to East Carolina 143.5-83.5. The women fall to 2-2 in dual meets this year while the men drop to 1-4 this season.
While the meet featured three schools, the scoring reflected two dual meets towards the teams records. Competing in each event against two strong swimming and diving programs, GW won only two events outright.
Last weeks Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week, sophomore Maggie Moss (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) earned first place in the 200-yd backstroke with a time of 204.57. This was Moss' fastest time of the season and just more than a second off of her GW record time of 203:50. Moss also took fourth place in the 200-yd IM in a time of 2:08.86 almost a second better than her previous season best time of 2:09.45.
Senior Kristen Fagley (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/Westminster) won the 500-yd freestyle in a time of 505.94. This winning-time eclipsed her season best time by more than a second. Fagley also took second place in the 200-yd freestyle in a time of 1:55.16 which was better than her best time of the season.
Other top performers for GW were Mark Adam (Millersville, MD/Severna Park) who finished second in the 200-yd breaststroke, Bryan Feretti (Newtown, PA/Council Rock) who took third in the 1,000-yd freestyle and Sean Flaherty (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough) who took third in the 500-yd freestyle.
