Colonials Swimming And Diving Takes Loss To The Tribe

Williamsburg, VA - GW's swimming and diving lost to William and Mary on the men's and women's side today. The men fell 124-108 and the women lost 137.5-103.5. The men are still looking for their first win after eight tries while the women drop from .500 to 3-4. Today's meet did, however, feature some strong individual performances particularly from some of the Colonials' younger stars.
Maggie Moss (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) again won two events. She took first in the 200-yd Individual Medley with a time of 2:11.65. She also took top-honors in the 200-yd backstroke with a time of 2:08.35. Two men also won two events for the Colonials against the Tribe. Sean Kernan (Virginia Beach, VA/Cape Henry) took first in the 50-yd freestyle with a time of 0:22.50 and then won the 100-yd freestyle with a time of 0:55.22. Robert Stuart (Greenville, DE/Alexis I. DuPont) won both the 1-meter and 3-meter dive with scores of 146.10 and 166.95 respectively.
Freshman Mark Adam (Millersville, MD/Severna Park), who received A-10 Co-Rookie of the Week honors last week, won the 200-yd breastroke with a time of 2:12.06. Junior Andrew De Sorbo (Salisbury, NC/Salisbury) also took first in the 200-yd butterfly with a time of 1:58.20.
Other Colonials' women who won events were Ruth Dubyel (West Point, NY/James I. O'Neill), Christina Boland (Purcelville, VA/Loudon Valley), and Kristen Fagley (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/Westminster). Dubyel took first in the 200-yd butterfly with a time of 2:10.60, Boland finished first in the 100-yd freestyle with a time of 0:55.22, and Fagley won the 500-yd freestyle with a time of 5:15.14.
The Colonials also won two relays with first place finishes in the men's 400-yd medley relay with a time of 3:40.06 and the women's 400-yd freestyle relay with a time of 3:42.52. The Colonials return home to compete against Massachusetts this weekend. Diving will take place at the Smith Center on Friday, January 24th at 7:00 pm. Swimming will start at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 25th at the Smith Center on the George Washington Campus in Washington, DC.
