COLLEGE PARK, MD (Sept. 21). -Junior Kim King scored two goals and teammates Jenny Boyd and Jen Briscoe assisted on both to lead the Maryland Terrapins past GW, 2-0, this evening, Sept. 21, at Ludwig Field. With the loss the Colonials record fell to 2-3.
King broke a scoreless tie in the 37th minute as she collected a deflected corner kick and beat GW goalkeeper Christine O'Malley (Davis, CA/Davis Senior) to put the Terrapins ahead.
Despite being out shot 12-3 in the first half, the Colonials stayed in the game, as the score remained 1-0 through 67 minutes. However, King, Boyd and Briscoe connected again in the 68th minute to put the Terrapins up 2-0 and put the game out of reach.
The Colonials were led by sophomore Colleen Ragan (Coatesville, PA/Downingtown Senior), senior Erin Coppedge (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's), sophomore Meggan Eckert (Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain) and redshirt sophomore Kim Warner (North York, Ontario, Canada/St. Joseph's), all of whom had two shots each. O'Malley stood tall in the nets despite giving up the two goals. She finished with 11 saves while facing 26 Maryland shots
The Colonials open up Atlantic 10 play with a game at Richmond on Monday, Sept. 24, beginning at 7:00 pm.
