O'Malley Earns Second Shutout of the Season
Bronx, NY (Oct. 21)- George Washington senior forward Erin Coppedge (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) scored her fourth goal of the season and sophomore goalkeeper Christine O'Malley (Davis, CA/Davis Senior) made five saves to lead GW to a 1-0 victory over the Fordham Rams, this afternoon, Oct. 21, at Edward's Parade. The victory improves the Colonials overall record to 6-8 and Atlantic 10 record to 3-4. The Rams fell to 5-8-1 overall and to 0-7 in the Atlantic 10.
The lone goal of the contest came at the 19:10 mark as Coppedge headed in sophomore Caite Terranova's (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) indirect kick to put the Colonials up in the early going.
The Rams outshot the Colonials 10-4 in the match, but O'Malley was strong in the net to earn the shutout. After going 29 matches without posting a shutout to start her collegiate career, O'Malley has now posted two shutouts in her last four starts.
The Colonials will return home on Friday, October 26, to face to face the Rhode Island Rams in an Atlantic 10 contest beginning at 3:00 PM.
