Bierwirth is entering her 20th year at GW, serving as Associate Athletics Director for Compliance. In this capacity she is responsible for monitoring and recording all NCAA, Atlantic 10 Conference and institutional required activities and information relating to admissions, recruitment, playing and practice seasons, financial aid and eligibility. She and her staff assist in the investigation and reporting of all NCAA and Conference violations along with providing educational meetings and documents on NCAA rules and regulations for student-athletes, coaches, staff, and other key offices on campus. She also serves as the sport administrator for the men’s and women’s cross country/track and women's rowing programs.
Bierwirth has been active in numerous committees on the national level having served on the Division I Progress-Toward-Degree Waivers Committee, chairing the committee during her final year, the Division I Interpretations Committee and the NCAA Division I Amateurism Fact-Finding Committee, which she chaired. Bierwirth also served on the NCAA Committee on Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct, serving as the chair in her final year and was a member of the NCAA Women's Water Polo Committee.
Prior to joining GW, Bierwirth served as Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. While in that position, she was also the Interim Director of Academic Advisement for Student-Athletes for some time. She also served as the College Compliance Officer/Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance and Academic Support at Coppin State University in Baltimore, Md.
Originally from South Burlington, Vt., Bierwirth earned her bachelor's degree in political science with a minor in Russian studies from the University of Vermont in 1992, then completed her master's degree in higher education/administration from GW in 1995.
