Justin Wong is entering his third season at George Washington and comes to the District with 15 years of collegiate coaching experience, most recently serving as an assistant coach at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi from 2018 to 2022.Â
With the Islanders, Wong helped the team to a Southland Championship in the Spring and Fall of 2021, advancing to the NCAA Tournament for two consecutive seasons and fourth in program history. As part of that 2021 team, Wong coached the Player, Setter and Libero of the Year, including a libero that led the country in digs per set.Â
In his third season with the Islanders, Wong helped guide the 2020 Player and Setter of the Year, coaching a team that was top-5 in kills per set and top-15 in hitting percentage among the nation.Â
Before Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Wong was at Georgetown where he coached a pair of Big East All-Conference selections, 27 Big East All-Academic selections and one AVCA All-Region selection. In addition, Wong played a critical role in developing Symone Speech and Alyssa Sinnette as the pair reached the 1,000 kill milestone in 2017.Â
Prior to his time at Georgetown, Wong was a member of the Delaware State coaching staff, where he was promoted from the assistant coach to the associate head coach. Wong helped five players to all-tournament teams and served as the team's primary video and scouting analyst as well as the recruiting coordinator.Â
Before coaching at Delaware State, Wong was at Ohio University as a volunteer assistant in 2012, helping with player development, opponent scouting and practice planning.Â
Wong's collegiate coaching career began at Miami University (Ohio), serving as a volunteer assistant before being promoted to interim assistant coach in 2011.Â
Outside of his collegiate resume, Wong coached 13 years of Junior Olympic volleyball, including leading one of the top-15 club teams at Dallas Skyline Juniors in 2012, and also gained club experience at Mintonette Sports in Columbus, Ohio. While at Mintonette, Wong led his team to second place at USA Jr. Nationals in the 17 National Division, ranking No. 40 in PrepVolleyball.com among all National 17s teams in the country. Wong also coached at Metro Volleyball Club in DC, where he assisted with the 16 travel team in 2016 and was head coach of the 14 travel team in 2016-17, having both teams qualify in the Open.Â
Wong played collegiately at Ohio State on the men's club team as an outside hitter. He earned his bachelor's degree in Sport & Leisure Studies: Coaching & Leisure Management in 2004 and obtained his master's degree in Sport Behavior & Performance at Miami University (Ohio) in 2011.Â
