About the First Ladies
The GW First Ladies Dance Team is the official dance team for George Washington University. The team performs at all Men's and Women's home basketball games, travels with the teams to A-10 and NCAA tournaments, and participates in community and campus-wide events to promote school spirit. Tryouts are held twice a year (April and September) for all GW students. The team practices at least three times a week (Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday), and performs mostly pom and jazz routines. GW First Ladies 2025-26 Tryouts
Fall tryouts for the 2025-26 team will be held on Sunday, September 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Smith Center. Tryouts are open to all current GW students in good academic standing. You can register for tryouts here.
The online registration form, liability release paperwork (can be signed by all dancers 18+ at tryouts), and proof of health insurance are required in order to participate. If you are under 18 years old, please contact gwdance@gwu.edu for a copy for a parent/guardian to sign.
Tryout Process and Requirements
Doors will open at 9:30 a.m. in Smith for dancers to register and warm up. Use the downstairs entrance at G and 22nd (bring your GW ID), then head up the stairs on your left and take a left for registration. Please arrive on time to ensure you have time to register, warm up and stretch. Tryouts will consist of performing various technical skills as well as a short dance team routine.
Dancers will be asked to demonstrate the following skills:
- Double & triple pirouette
- A la seconde turns
- Front leap
- Toe touch or center leap
- Calypso
- One special skill of your choice
Attire
- Sports bra or bra top
- Biker/compression shorts
- Jazz shoes or sneakers (please no bare feet)
- Performance-ready hair and makeup
- No jewelry (except small stud earrings)
