Volleyball Outlasts Georgetown, 3-1 in Monumental Matchup

WASHINGTON-Â GW Volleyball rolled past Georgetown on Saturday afternoon, 3-1, earning a win in the first of this fall's Monumental Matchup series.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
·      The Buff & Blue rolled out to a quick start in the first, rattling off 17 kills and hitting a match-high .536 to jump to a 25-14 set victory in the opening frame.Â
·      The momentum stayed with the home team in the second, putting down an additional 12 kills to outlast Georgetown, 25-19. The Hoyas began to rally in the second, matching GW's 12 kills to head to the third.Â
·      Georgetown grabbed the momentum in the third, owning the set, 25-15 to force a fourth frame.Â
·    In the fourth, the Revolutionaries rallied through eight ties and three lead changes to finish the match on a strong note, earning the win, 25-21.Â
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
·      Cianna Tejada returned to the starting lineup and brought a strong offensive presence, putting down 12 kills and chipping in three blocks at the net.Â
·      Cayla Cogan also swung for 12 kills at the pin to propel GW's attack.Â
·      Abby Markworth stepped up as the team's setter, feeding the attack with 29 assists and dishing out three kills. Â
·      As a team, the Buff & Blue outhit Georgetown, 46-42.Â
·      Ava Webster earned her first collegiate start.Â
GW will return to action at the Smith Center next weekend, playing host to UMBC, Loyola Maryland and Morgan State as part of Battle of the Beltway. The tournament will kick off when the Buff & Blue face UMBC on Friday evening with 6 p.m. first serve.Â
