Volleyball Outlasts Patriots in Five to Claim A-10 Series

FAIRFAX, Va. – GW volleyball battled through five sets Wednesday night to take down George Mason, earning the conference series victory in a thrilling 3–2 decision at the Recreation & Athletic Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
· The Buff & Blue came out strong in the opening frame, with the lead fluctuating six times before the Patriots closed on a late run to win the set in extras, 26–24.
· GW responded in the second and took advantage of early George Mason errors to even the match, 25–20.
· The Patriots regained control in the third, claiming a 25–22 set win to take a 2-1 lead.
· GW again rallied to take the fourth, 25–23, and forced a decisive fifth set.
· In the final frame, the GW Revs leaned on its efficient offense in a 15–13 victory, earning the match and series win in the process.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
· Taylor Treahy had career-high 29 kills and a .339 hitting percentage, while also adding seven digs, three service aces and an assist.
· Setter Abby Markworth paced the offense with 46 assists, while Lydia Zeng anchored the back row with 14 digs.
· GW totaled 11 team blocks, highlighted by Sydney Stewart combining on six.
· The victory moves GW to 14–10 overall and 7–5 in Atlantic 10 play, matching George Mason's record.
GW returns to the Smith Center on Friday, welcoming VCU for another A-10 series. First serve is set for 6 p.m., and the match will be carried on ESPN+.
