Bridgeport, Pa. – GW water polo graduate goalkeeper Vasilije Marinkovic and first-year center Andrea Forno have been named the MAWPC Co-Defender of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the conference office announced on Tuesday. Both were key to the Revolutionaries' success on the opening weekend of MAWPC play.Â
Marinkovic, a transfer from Mount St. Mary's, made 30 saves over the course of GW's three games. From Kotor, Montenegro, Marinkovic played a complete game with 10 saves and one assist as GW snuck past Bucknell on Saturday. Marinkovic then made starts vs. both Mercyhurst and Mount St. Mary's, tallying 10 saves in both games before being spelled by Connor Jermain in goal. Marinkovic leads GW this season with 137 saves and a 41.77 save percentage.
Forno led GW with 11 goals in the Buff & Blue's wins over Bucknell, Mercyhurst and Mount St. Mary's, including a six-goal performance against Mercyhurst on Saturday. The rookie paired his team-leading goal output with a team-best seven drawn exclusions, two assists and two steals. Out of Rome, Italy, Forno is up to 36 points this season (31 goals, five assists), the third-highest point total from a Revolutionary to this point.Â
Both will lead GW into action this week when the Revolutionaries travel to Pennsylvania for rematches against Bucknell and Mercyhurst.
