Water Polo Beats Mount St. Mary’s, Finishes Fifth at MAWPC Championship

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The George Washington water polo team concluded the 2023 season on Sunday with a 16-12 win over Mount St. Mary's, clinching fifth place at the MAWPC Championship and finishing the season at 13-14.
The Revolutionaries looked to pull away early in the season finale, leading 5-2 early in the game, but Mount didn't go down without a fight and tied the game at 9-9 just before the half.
Halftime adjustments by the Revolutionaries paid dividends as GW had its way in the third quarter and outscored the Mountaineers 5-1. The Revolutionaries lead was up to 14-10 entering the fourth, where they saw through the 16-12 win in the final eight minutes of the season.
Junior Andrija Sekulic posted a hefty stat line with four goals, seven assists, one steal and three exclusions drawn. Seniors Viktor Jovanovic and Leo Lueddemann each also had big outings, Lueddemann finishing with a team-high five goals, and Jovanovic collecting seven points from three goals and four assists. Senior goalkeeper Luca Castorina stayed busy throughout and made 13 saves.
