Swimming and Diving Takes Three of Four A-10 Weekly Awards

Moldovanu, Nagy and Topolewski recognized after Saturday’s dual meet
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Following a commanding win in Saturday's dual meet over Johns Hopkins, Philip Moldovanu, Daniel Nagy and Ava Topolewski have each earned Atlantic-10 weekly awards. Moldovanu was named the A-10 Performer of the Week, while Nagy and Topolewski were tabbed A-10 Rookies of the Week, per the league on Tuesday.
This is Moldovanu's first weekly award of the season, and it comes after going a perfect two-for-two in race wins over Johns Hopkins. The sophomore from Boynton Beach, Fla. started the meet by taking first (9:23.21) in the 1,000-yard freestyle, later backing that up with a win (4:34.19) in the 500-yard freestyle.
First-year Daniel Nagy also earned his first weekly award of the season after finding the podium in both of his individual swims. Nagy captured full points with his win (1:50.36) in the 200-yard butterfly. He then took second (49.75) in the 100-yard butterfly, which was less than a half second behind junior Djurdje Matic, and finished off the meet by taking fourth (1:34.21) in the the 200-yard medley relay.
Ava Topolewski earned her second A-10 Rookie of the Week award of the season following an impressive outing. She took first place in both the 500-yard (5:03.00) and 1,000-yard (10:11.64) freestyles, while also finishing the 200-yard butterfly in second place (2:06.65).
The GW swimming and diving teams are back in action this weekend, heading across town on Saturday for a dual meet with Georgetown.
