McCarthy won gold in 500 free Thursday
GENEVA, Ohio - Led by a gold medal from Erin McCarthy and silvers from Molly Smyers and Julia Knox, GW women's swimming and diving got points from 11 different scorers across the three individual events to grow its lead at the Atlantic 10 Championships on Thursday night at SPIRE Institute.
McCarthy and Smyers went 1-2 in the 500-yard freestyle to open the night, while Knox was runner-up in the 200-yard individual medley with an NCAA B-cut time of 1:59.20 that dropped the program record.
In the final race of the night, Marlee Rickert, Becca Brown, Barbara Schaal and Grace Olivardia combined to earn a bronze medal in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:31.12.
The Buff and Blue have 241 points at the halfway mark of the four-day meet to lead Richmond (197 points), Davidson (177) and Duquesne (165) in the team standings.
