Jaylin Hartman, Kamari Sims and Sara Lewis will don the Buff & Blue in 2023
WASHINGTON - GW women's basketball head coach Caroline McCombs announced the signings of three student-athletes to national letters of intent. Jaylin Hartman, Kamari Sims and Sara Lewis have all put pen to paper and will join the Buff & Blue beginning in 2023.
"We are very excited to welcome our newcomers to GW! Our three signees fit the needs of our program in a variety of ways, but first and foremost by the type of character these young women possess," said McCombs. "All three are highly motivated and competitive individuals who strive to be a part of something bigger than themselves. We believe on the court they will allow our program to grow in all facets with their length, athleticism, offensive skill sets and ability to defend multiple positions."
Jaylin Hartman
6'2" // F // Blairstown, N.J. // Blair Academy
Hartman, who enters her senior season at Blair Academy as the 42nd ranked prospect according to the Dan Olson Collegiate Girls Basketball Report, has put together a slew of accolades during her high school career. As a first-year at Blair Academy, Hartman was named an U16 Olympic Invitee, one of only 30 players nationally in her class. Last year as a junior, Hartman led Blair Academy in points, rebounds, steals, blocks and assists while helping to lead her team to the Mid-Atlantic Prep League Championship. Following Blair Academy's title, Hartman was named to the MAPL First-Team.
What they're saying:
"Jaylin is a lean and versatile forward who can stretch the defense with her ability to shoot the three, but also has tremendous length to score around the rim. We know she will be a great fit when she arrives in Foggy Bottom". – Caroline McCombs
"I knew GW was the place for me because the coaches really seemed to be genuine and honest people. I connected with them instantly and felt comfortable and authentic around them. I love Coach McCombs' vision for the program, and I am extremely excited to work hard, learn from the girls, and build a winning culture." – Jaylin Hartman
"Jaylin is a true coach's kid. She is a worker who seeks feedback. She implements that feedback quickly and enjoys intense competition. Her ability to defend all five positions is her most college-ready skill set. She will be an immediate force on both ends at the next level. Jaylin is a culture driver who plays and leads with the values her school and program seek to exhibit. She will be a fantastic addition to GW." – Greg Rosnick, Blair Academy Head Coach
"Jaylin will provide GW with a Swiss Army knife set of skills. A long wing who has zone stretching range, along with the ability to cause headaches for the opposition on the defensive end. A team player and mature leader, it is evident in everything Jaylin does that she will be a great asset to the Buff & Blue." – Kevin Lynch, Director of Philly Rise (Hartman's AAU Coach)
Kamari Sims
6'1" // F // Severn, Md. // Riverdale Baptist
Sims enters the 2022-23 recruiting period as the 14th ranked Maryland prospect, according to Max Preps. During her high school career at Archbishop Spalding and Riverdale Baptist, Sims has developed into a dynamic scorer. In 2021-22, Sims averaged 19 points and eight rebounds on her way to an Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland (IAAM) All-Conference selection and First Team All-County selection.
What they're saying:
"Kamari is a crafty playmaker with the ball in her hands. She can really deliver the ball while also scoring it at all three levels. We know she will make a strong impact on our program." – Caroline McCombs
"I am very excited and eager to play for Coach McCombs at GW. You can see the culture that is being built is something special and it's a great feeling to know that I will be a piece of the process." – Kamari Sims
"GW is getting a player with a lot of savvy and intangibles in Kamari Sims. Kamari's biggest strength is playing multiple positions and knowing the game. I know she will be an undeniable asset to Coach McCombs' program." – Shawn Wright, Riverdale Baptist Head Coach
"Kamari is an electric scorer with excellent vision. Her combination of strength and agility makes her a matchup nightmare. She can score on the block, hit a deep three or drop a pinpoint pass in transition. Her offensive repertoire is so varied that she is very difficult to guard." – Kathy Gillespie, Director of Germantown Lady Panthers (Sims' AAU Team)
Sara Lewis
6'1" // F // College Park, Ga. // Woodward Academy
Sara Lewis will arrive on campus following a high school career as a prolific point producer. Lewis, who is ranked as the second overall small forward in Georgia, according to the Dan Olson Collegiate Girls Basketball Report, has averaged double-digit points every year of her career at Woodward Academy. Additionally, Lewis has helped lead Woodward Academy to back-to-back state championships in 2021 and 2022 and was named to the All-State team both years.
What they're saying:
"Sara Lewis is a strong wing that can really shoot the three, attacks the rim and uses her length and athleticism to score in the paint. She will be a tremendous asset to our team and the culture we're building." – Caroline McCombs
"I am very excited to play under a tremendous staff and with a remarkable team at a beautiful university. Knowing some of GW's core values revolve around integrity, collaboration, and respect, I am excited to be on a campus that is committed to teaching me vital lessons that will push me to grow as an individual." – Sara Lewis
"It has been my honor coaching Sara these last four years. As a four-year starter, Sara has an innate leadership ability that I've seen from year one. Her length and quickness cause so much disruption on the defensive end and she uses it to her advantage offensively. GW is getting a gem." – Kim Lawrence, Woodward Academy Head Coach
"First and foremost, Sara will bring her most intangible quality, leadership, to GW. She will also bring intensity, strength, and excitement. Sara does everything well on both ends of the court and is an absolute beast. I know she will develop into a great well-rounded piece for Coach McCombs and the GW program." – Lisa Normandy, Director of FBC Legacy (Sara's AAU Team)
