Buff & Blue ink 17 for 2021-22 season
WASHINGTON - George Washington swimming and diving head coach Brian Thomas has announced the addition of 17 student-athletes to the roster for the 2021-22 season.
Featuring 14 swimmers and three divers, the group of 10 women and seven men brings extensive high-level experience to the program. All of them come in with personal-best efforts that would be good enough to score at the Atlantic 10 Championships.
The first-years include Julia Knox (Craigavon, United Kingdom), Moriah Freitas (Orlando, Fla.), Dara Reyblat (Sherman Oaks, Calif.), Molly Smyers (Allison Park, Pa.), Olivia Rosen (Parkland, Fla.), Ava DeAngelis (Duxbury, Mass.), Taylor Bernosky (Scottsdale, Ariz.), Kaylin McCormick (Carlsbad, Calif.), Chloe Hernandez (Miami, Fla.), Bode Ringenbach (Raleigh, N.C.), Philip Moldovanu (Boynton Beach, Fla.), Connor Rodgers (Carmel, Calif.), Justin Clark (Newton, Mass.) and John Marple (Mount Kisco, N.Y.).
The Buff and Blue have also added a trio of transfers in Carly Perri (Duke), Durde Matic (East Carolina) and Gavin Jones (Florida State). Matic is a former AAC medalist in the 100 fly, while Perri and Jones are graduate students bringing extensive ACC experience.
"The Class of 2021 is a testament to the efforts of our staff under extremely unique circumstances," said Thomas, who was named 2021 A-10 Coach of the Year after leading the GW men to their fourth conference title in five seasons. "They worked throughout the spring and summer to find new ways to connect with prospects and helped us land one of the most talented classes in our program's history.
"On the men's side, our newcomers will allow for continued success at the Atlantic 10 meet while also helping our program climb toward new heights at the NCAA Championships. For the women, this class will bring an influx of talent and scoring ability at the A-10 level as each athlete comes to campus with performances that score at the A-10 meet.
"Of course, there's a lot of work to do before we can start thinking about winning championships, but the future is very bright. More important than their ability in the pool, this class bought into the culture that we've continued to build within our program - each is committed to elevating their teammates, and I love that."
