First-year helped lead GW to win over Delaware Sunday
WASHINGTON - GW women's basketball first-year Aurea Gingras has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday.
The Alexandria, Va., native had the best performance of her young career in driving GW to a come-from-behind victory over Delaware on Sunday. Gingras scored a career-high 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting, while also leading the team with seven rebounds and four assists.
Playing all but three minutes in the game, Gingras had two crucial assists: one on a momentum-changing, fast-break layup to junior Maddie Loder in the second quarter and another on the final bucket of the game, once again finding Loder on a long outlet following a rebound in the final 30 seconds.
Through her first six career games, Gingras has shown a well-rounded repertoire by averaging 4.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.3 steals per game.
