Beyond the Bio: Katie Stefl
11/4/2020 12:00:00 PM | Men's Swimming and Diving, Women's Swimming and Diving, My GW: Celebrating our Stories
Welcome back to Beyond the Bio, where we'll get to know more about the people behind the scenes at GW Athletics.
In this edition, we learn more about swimming and diving assistant coach Katie Stefl. Now in her sixth season with the Buff and Blue, she's been a part of the most successful run in program history, highlighted by three straight Atlantic 10 men's titles from 2017-19 and a breakthrough conference crown for the women last February.
When I'm not working, my favorite thing to do is?
I like to work out (OrangeTheory, lifting or running with my dog) or cook.

If I was an animal, I would be?
An eagle. I've always thought stingrays were cool and graceful and they're one of my favorite animals, but flying would be hard to beat.

If I could only eat one meal for every meal for the rest of my life, it would be?
Steak, roasted veggies and fresh bread

My favorite place I've ever been is?
I have favorite places for different reasons, but Israel is pretty up there. I love places with history, different cultures and varied geography. Israel is a tiny, tiny country, but you could spend forever there and not see everything. And the food is amazing!

If I could have coffee with anybody in the world, living or historical, he/she would be?
Bill Belichick

The one job in GW Athletics I'd like to do for a day is?
Pretty happy on the swim and dive staff, but John Square's job would be fun for a day.

The person I'm most inspired by is?
My parents. My dad has had a job since he was 12 or something, and he's retired now but still has a retirement job. I've never heard him complain about working ever. And my mom is hands down the most caring and selfless person I know, in addition to being one of the hardest working.

My favorite book, movie, TV show or podcast is?
Book: Ender's Game
Movie: Miracle
TV Show: Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and The Queen
Podcast: My Favorite Murder
My top #OnlyAtGW moment was?
Every time I get to sing the fight song in the pool Saturday night after A10s. And every monument run.
If I could be granted the gift of elite athleticism, I'd like to be able to?
Be an elite CrossFitter. It's crazy how they're so good at so many different disciplines.
