Colonials add eight men and six women for 2019-2020
WASHINGTON - George Washington swimming and diving will add 14 newcomers for the 2019-2020 season, head coach Brian Thomas announced Monday.
This recruiting class features eight men and six women, adding depth across the roster with 11 swimmers and three divers.Â
The new Colonials hail from 10 different states, in addition to a pair of international student-athletes. The list includes 13 first-years, plus graduate transfer Marissa Martin.
The new additions will join an experienced group that includes 13 returning All-Conference honorees (eight men, five women). The Colonials won their third straight Atlantic 10 men's title a year ago, while the women continued their climb up the conference standings to place second and equal their best-ever finish at the conference meet.
"We're thrilled to welcome another talented group to Foggy Bottom," Thomas said. "Wes (Mattice), Katie (Stefl) and Logan (Arnold) did a phenomenal job of identifying talent and making sure we found the right student-athletes for our program.
"This group is very diverse and will allow us to continue to build toward the top level of Division I while competing for championships within the A-10. More importantly, I think we've recruited a class full of very good people, and that will serve our team well as we continue to build a successful culture.Â
"For these student-athletes, the team component was very important, and they all had a strong desire to be a part of something bigger than themselves. Our team is ready to welcome them with open arms as they transition to D.C."
